Building Control Approved Inspectors, Assent & Oculus Building consultancy, has expanded its network with the opening of a new office in Caerphilly, Wales. The office provides building surveying services across the whole of South & West / Mid Wales as well as operating in England.
The office, which opened at the start of April, has a fully formed team with local knowledge of building control related issues and the built environment. Leading the team will be Mark Hodges, who has over 30 years’ experience working within building control on a wide variety of both domestic and commercial projects in Wales & England. This experience has led him to possess an in-depth working knowledge of building regulations and maintain full conversance of relevant legislation, technical guidance, and the Construction Industry Council Code of Conduct.
Mark said: “I’m looking forward to beginning this new phase and to continue to help my surrounding Welsh construction community maintain a sustainable, accessible, and safe built environment. The team that we have here is highly skilled and motivated, and we have a good understanding of what it takes to deliver a high performing building control service.”
Simon Drake is working alongside Mark as a Senior Building Control Surveyor. Simon is a fully qualified RICS building control surveyor and has experience of a range of projects from simple domestic build and extensions through to larger commercial projects. He will be providing building control surveying, inspection and plan checking services.
Recently joining the team is Sean Pagett, a building control surveyor with over 11 years experience in local authority building control. Sean brings with him a wealth of experience working on everything from small domestic projects to multi-million pound schools and colleges.
The administrative team is made up of office manager, Lowri Drury supported by Charis Evans. Between them they have 24 years’ experience in administration support in the sector. Both are fluent in Welsh, extending accessibility to the local area by providing a bilingual service to customers, should that be required.
Iain Thomson, CEO of Assent said: “This office is a great step for Assent and Oculus, broadening our geographical footprint is important to us in ensuring we deliver a flexible resource for our customers. We hope to draw on the expertise of our fantastic new team, to ensure building regulation compliance is integrated into projects across the whole of Wales.”
The team are all keen rugby enthusiasts and proud supporters of Wales. The office is located just a 10-minute walk from Caerphilly Castle, the largest castle in Wales, second only to Windsor in the whole of Britain.
