Rotherham United : New York Stadium.
Architects: S&P Architects

Contractors: GMI Construction and Gleeds
Construction cost : £20 million
The “Safety Team” approach applied to the design, construction and operation of the ground required detailed liaison between Assent, Client, GMI, S&P, Fire Service, Local and Sports Ground Safety Authorities and other stakeholders.
Creating an accessible environment and maintaining acceptable fire evacuation times were particular challenges for the scheme. Assent worked closely with the Architects and Fire Engineering consultants to ensure compliant and cost effective delivery of the scheme which now incorporates spaces for up to 127 wheelchair users and helpers..
“Omega Fire were the Fire Engineers on the New York Stadium, due to the complexity of the design and fire engineering strategy employed on the scheme a pragmatic and responsive Approving Authority was essential, Assent fulfilled this requirement and worked well as a values design team member from bid stage through to final handover of the project. Assent and Omega had to work extremely closely in gaining the acceptance of the numerous additional stakeholders required on a stadium of this scale, including the Local Fire and Rescue Service and also the Football Association Health and safely advisors.”
The stadium has a 12,000 all-seated capacity, with the option to be able to increase the stadium’s capacity if needed.[9]It cost approximately £20 million to construct.[4]The stadium includes The 1925 Club, a corporate hospitality suite.[10]
Construction started in June 2011 and the stadium was officially opened byPrince Edward, Duke of Kenton 12 March 2012.[6]The first game played at the stadium was a pre-season match between Rotherham and Barnsley, held on 21 July 2012.[4]
