Assent Building Compliance Associate Forms Revolutionary Fire Safety Action Group
3rd December 2020

A new industry action group has been founded by Assent Building Compliance Associate Paul Le Mare with the mission to unify the Building Control profession and raise standards in the built environment.

In support of the ACAI the Fire Safety Action Group (FSAG) currently comprises of around a dozen members plus guest attendees including senior individuals from Approved Inspectors, LABC and the NFCC – National Fire Chiefs Council to mention a few.

The Fire Safety Action Group encompasses other building safety standards in addition to their focus on fire safety with the goal of providing a single voice in dialogue with the Government, regulating and professional bodies.

Of the group’s formation Paul Le Mare commented “It’s long been an ambition of mine to unify the voices across the building control profession. This group presents a real opportunity to collaborate, learn and share best practice, find solutions and together, improve fire safety standards and practices across the industry.”

FSAG have hosted a number of guest Speakers who are invited to present an update to the group with the opportunity to take part in a Q&A session. Some of the recent speakers have included:

  • – Sir Ken Knight, Former Chief Fire & Rescue Advisor for England
  • – Chandru Dissanayeki, Director, Building Safety Reform, MHCLG
  • – Nicholas Coombe, Vice Chair of NFCC Protection Committee
  • – Rupert Parker, CEO & Founder, Building Passport
  • – Anthony Oloyede, Head of Hillingdon Building Control & LABC President 2020
  • – Tim Galloway, HSE, Deputy Director – Building Safety Programme

Established during the UK’s national lockdown in March 2020 Paul Le Mare and Assent colleague Lisa Hendricks have been working tirelessly to set-up this revolutionary group and are now forging ahead with plans for 2021.

Assent is fully in support of the Fire Safety Action Group and has committed to working alongside Le Mare and Hendricks to help further establish the group and promote its work.

The Fire Safety Action Group has the potential to spearhead positive change across the industry. The FSAG are inviting members to join from across the industry, in particular other Approved Inspectors and the Fire Engineers Council.
