This week the government published an update on building regulations and a roadmap for changes following the Grenfell disaster. Part of the proposals is to implement the recommendations of the Hackitt Report which will ultimately result in the creation of a Joint Regulators Group (JRG).
Applications can still be made to Approved Inspectors under the current system until such time the Building Act is changed, and the new legislation is implemented. As yet there is no time table for the implementation of the proposals and there is concern that fire authorities in particular are not provided with sufficient resources to meet the demands of the JRG.
Assent agree with the ACAI that this is disappointing decision by government and a real missed opportunity to create an open and transparent single system of building control.
